Fast on the heels of Apple’s iPad launch come new accessories from Griffin, Belkin and TOM BIHN. Griffin has announced the Elan Passport, a folio case that offers full wrap-around protection and a microsuede lining to protect the iPad surfaces. The folio is held shut by a stretch band and its inner cover has card pockets. The Elan Sleeve is a synthetic leather shell case that the iPad slips into. It has a microsuede interior for protection, and a tab closure to keep the iPad secure. Both Elan cases will cost $50….

McGraw-Hill, Verizon, more missing from iPad event

Several predicted announcements were missing from today’s iPad event, reflection shows. Verizon for instance was not announced as a tablet partner, nor even as a new American iPhone carrier. For the forseeable future, both the iPad and the iPhone will be AT&T exclusives in the US….

After much speculation Apple has officially announced the iPad, the company’s first tablet device. The hardware resembles an oversized iPhone, but uses a dramatically altered version of the iPhone interface, borrowing tropes from Mac OS X such as a Dock, floating windows and a desktop background. Apps on the device are much more elaborate, for instance allowing Mail to display both a list of messages and a preview pane at the same time, or Calendar to show an entire month….

iPhone Developer Center undergoes temporary downtime

The iPhone Developer Center was temporarily unavailable on Wednesday morning, accounts say. Although once again active as of this writing, earlier visitors to the site are reported to have seen Apple’s standard “we’ll be back soon” graphic, and been unable to access normal developer services. The Center would normally allow developers to check on their App Store submissions….

iPhone dev agreement accidentally mentions Jan. 27 event

Apple has let slip a reference to an important iPhone OS announcement, multiple sources confirm. People signing up for the iPhone Developer Program in the past day have noticed an oddity in the service’s licensing agreement. Rather than showing a proper set of legal disclaimers, the agreement containts the text “Place holder Agreement – Need to update this for the 27th launch,” followed by “Rev. 01-27-10.”…
